Children come into this world as innocent participants. They do not know how cruel and harsh the world can be at times. All they know is the love, safety and protection they feel from their parents, siblings, grandparents and other care givers that are in their young lives. When it is done right, these individuals provide everything that children need to flourish in life without feeling pain. When it is done wrong those same individuals inflict heartache, pain and a loss of security to the very children they should be fighting beyond measure to protect and keep safe.
Like many of you, I have been fixated on the Casey Anthony trial for much of this summer. I heard the defense claim that Casey Anthony loved her daughter and would never harm her because little Caylee ran to her every time she saw her mother. This is not a sign of Casey Anthony’s performance as a mother but rather a little girl who believes that love, support and protection could be found in those arms. Little Caylee did not know better. She could not have possibly known that her mother was the one person in this world that she needed the most protection from.
As a result of yesterday’s ‘not guilty’ verdict that was handed down by those 12 members of the jury, we will never know what really happened to Caylee. Her mother may possibly be set free tomorrow to make a new life for herself. If she does not go free tomorrow then she will one day in the very near future. I was shocked, saddened and angered by yesterday’s verdict. Our justice system seemed to fail on all measures. That verdict can not be changed or over turned. The world will eventually go on. There will be other high-profile criminal trials that captivate the attention of our nation once again. Soon Caylee will be just a distant memory remembered only when another child makes the headlines for leaving this world by the hands of a parent. This hardly seems like justice for little Caylee.
In some small way I do believe that justice for Caylee has been set in motion. She was taken from a family that failed to protect her. Yes I know it was at the hands of her mother. Yes I know that her mother will now go free from that act. But now Caylee is one of God’s beautiful angels and no one, including her mother, can hurt her anymore. She is free to be a little girl who runs and plays without a care in the world. I believe that this final act by her mother that sent Caylee to heaven was not the first time Casey hurt that beautiful child. A little child hurt by their parent does not understand the how or why of what is happening. Caylee loved her mother anyway because she did not know that life could be better. In that respect, Caylee is better off as an angel. Now she can watch over other children who are being hurt by their parents, standing ready to welcome them into heaven with open arms.
As for Casey Anthony, I believe that she will get what is coming to her one day. She may walk out of jail soon and enter into a world that does not think so highly of her anymore. The world that was once on her side, helping her find her daughter has now turned its back on her. She is almost destined to live a lonely life as she is unable to find any place of comfort, solace and protection in this world. There will also come a day when she finds herself in another situation that she will not be able to lie her way out of and thus will get the justice she so deserves right now. Casey will also leave this world one day and be forced to answer to God for the things that she did to beautiful little Caylee. We as a nation are outraged right now that those 12 jurors failed to bring justice to Caylee with their verdict. We just need to hold out faith and hope that justice will come. It just might be at a time and place that we do not see!
Until next time ~ Cheers!
